Why transfer an existing ISA
There are a number of reasons why an investor may consider transferring their accumulated ISA investments. These may include one or more of the following:-
- Poor investment performance
- Excessive exposure to a particular market sector
- Diversification
- Excessive charges
- Portfolio consolidation
- Change in circumstances such as a requirement for additional income from the investment

ISA transfers
Should you decide to proceed with a disposal, your funds will be “out of the market” for a period as it will take time to dispose of the holdings and reinvest the proceeds elsewhere. This being the case, if the underlying investments rise whilst the transfer takes place there is the potential for a loss of income and capital. It could also, of course, work to your advantage should the market fall during the interim period.
